What Homerealm notes in your game, what the Homerealm app on your computer reads and sends, what the website keeps, how long we keep it, who helps us run it, and the rights you have. The Terms of service are the agreement for using Homerealm.
Who we are
Homerealm is run from New Zealand. We decide how the information on this page is used. For anything about your privacy, write to privacy@homerealm.gg.
What Homerealm notes in your game
While you play, Homerealm in your game writes down:
- your journey: when you play and for how long, the zones and places you go, your path on each map, your level as it rises and your time played;
- your character as the game shows it: name, surname, realm, race, body, class, level, guild, the gear you wear, and the spells you cast and wear;
- the players you see, target, group and trade with: their name, class, level and guild, the gear they wear when you stand near them, and when you met;
- your fights: it turns on the game's own fight record, which the game writes on your computer while you play;
- the details of items and spells as the game describes them;
- when you raise your banner to claim a character, the BattleTag your game is logged in with.
It reads nothing outside the game, never speaks in chat, joins groups or plays for you. Its page in the game's Options (or /homerealm about) and Homerealm in your game say the same, with how to turn each part off.
What the Homerealm app reads and sends
The Homerealm app runs on your computer beside the game. It reads, and sends to Homerealm:
- what Homerealm in your game wrote down, each time the game saves it;
- the game's fight record, as the game writes it;
- every picture the game saves in its Screenshots folder, whether you took it with Homerealm's camera or the game's own screenshot key, with the time it was taken and the character playing;
- which World of Warcraft and which version of it you play, and your character's home region.
It starts as soon as it is installed, before you have a Home. What it sends before then is kept, and joins your Home once you raise your banner in the game and Battle.net confirms the character is yours.
Everything it sends carries a key made for that computer alone, so your journeys reach your Home and nobody else's. Every 15 minutes it asks the website whether there is a new version of itself or of Homerealm in your game, and puts it in place.
It reads nothing else: not your passwords, not what you type, not other programs, and not the game's memory. You can remove it at any time: on Windows, Homerealm in Settings, Installed apps; on a Mac, Uninstall Homerealm. That removes the app and Homerealm in your game from the computer; what has already reached your Home stays there.
What the website keeps
- your Home: your e-mail address, and your password only in a form from which it cannot be read back;
- if you sign in with Battle.net: your Battle.net account's number, your BattleTag, and the World of Warcraft characters Battle.net lists for it; we never see your Battle.net password;
- passkeys you add: the part your device shares, never the secret part;
- your sign-ins: the way you came in, when, your browser and your internet address, so you can see them on your Home, end them, and be told of a sign-in from somewhere new;
- the computers you link to your Home, with the name you give each;
- if you pay: what Stripe tells us, that you paid, when, how much and your country for tax; never your card number;
- requests you send us, such as asking for a character to be hidden, with how to reach you if you give it.
The website uses two cookies: one keeps you logged in, and one holds your Battle.net sign-in for the few minutes it takes. There is no advertising and no tracking.
Other players, and players who do not use Homerealm
When you meet other players, Homerealm notes them as the game shows them. On your pages we name another player only when two players' games agree on it; otherwise they are counted, never named.
If you play World of Warcraft without Homerealm, other players' games may still note having met your character. Anyone can ask for any character to be hidden, with no account, on the Hide page: it is hidden from every page from that moment, and Homerealm keeps nothing new about it.
Why we use it
- to keep and show your journey, fights, meetings and pictures, which is what Homerealm is for (our agreement with you);
- to let you sign in, keep your Home safe and tell you of changes to it (our agreement, and our interest in keeping Homerealm secure);
- to show the players you met, and the counts of players on your pages (our interest, and yours, in a shared record of the game; anyone can ask for their character to be hidden);
- to take payments and keep the records the tax law requires (our agreement, and our legal duty);
- to answer your requests and fix problems (our agreement, and our legal duty).
We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or make decisions about you by machine that have legal or similar effects.
How long we keep it
We keep your history indefinitely: for as long as Homerealm runs, with no date after which it is deleted, whatever plan you are on.
Your plan changes only what the website shows you. The free plan shows your last 90 days in full and the milestones of all your time; yearly keeping shows all of it. If yearly keeping ends, nothing is deleted, and all of it shows again when you renew.
Payment records are kept for at least as long as the tax law requires, which in New Zealand is seven years.
Who helps us run Homerealm
A few companies handle information for us, only to do their part:
- Cloudflare carries the website to you and keeps the pictures you take;
- Stripe takes payments, and keeps what it needs under its own privacy policy;
- Blizzard runs Battle.net sign-in: when you sign in with Battle.net, Blizzard's own privacy policy applies to what you give Blizzard there.
These companies may handle information in the United States and other countries. Where the law of your country requires it, we use the protections it recognises, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK's addendum to them.
We give your information to anyone else only when the law requires it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we keep about you, to correct it, to hide a character of yours, and to stop using your information for a purpose you object to. The law where you live may give you more:
- In the European Union and the European Economic Area (GDPR): access, correction, erasure, restriction, a copy in a common format to take elsewhere, objection, and withdrawing consent you gave, and a complaint to your country's data protection authority.
- In the United Kingdom (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018): the same rights, and a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office.
- In US states with privacy laws, among them California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon: to know what we keep and receive a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to opt out of its sale, sharing for advertising and profiling (we do none of these), to appeal a refusal, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. You may act through an agent you authorise.
- In New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020): access and correction, and a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner.
How to use your rights, and what happens then
Write to privacy@homerealm.gg from the e-mail address on your Home, or from your Home while you are logged in, and say what you are asking for. To hide a character you can also use Your characters or the Hide page at once.
- We check the request is yours, using your Home, your e-mail address or Battle.net; we may ask for one more thing to be sure, never for a password.
- Where your request is about a character, we hide it from every page at once and keep nothing new about it while we look at your request.
- We answer within 20 working days, and sooner where the law where you live requires it. If we need more time, which the law allows for complex requests, we tell you why within those 20 working days.
- A copy of what we keep comes in a common format you can open.
- Homerealm keeps history indefinitely and has no button that erases it. When you ask for erasure, we tell you in our answer what we will erase and what we keep and why. We erase what the law where you live requires us to, unless the law allows us to keep it, for example payment records the tax law requires, or what we need for a legal claim.
- If we refuse any part, we say why and how to appeal to us and complain to your authority.
Using your rights is free, unless a request is plainly unfounded or excessive.
Keeping it safe
Each computer you link has its own key, so nobody can send journeys into your Home from elsewhere. Your Home opens with Battle.net or a passkey; every change to how it opens is told to you by e-mail, with a link that undoes it. If something goes wrong that puts your information at risk, we tell you and the authorities the law requires us to tell, as soon as we can.
Children
Homerealm is not for children under 13. If we learn that a Home belongs to a child under 13, we close it and hide its characters.
